Alan’s Army

In his testimony during the public hearings on CB58 and CB59, CoFoCoDo spokesperson Alan Klein asked the members of the county council to “envision” all 450 purported supporters of the CoFoCoDo “lined up behind me” when he called on the council to reject this legistlation.

I imagine the council had a little difficulty doing that. The supporters Alan was referring to were people who signed on to a CoFoCoDo mission statement over three years ago, long before General Growth Properties even unveiled their plans for Columbia Town Center.

It’s hard to imagine this group of people, which includes three of the five current council members, lined up squarely behind Alan today.

Memo to CoFoCoDo: Time to update that supporters list.

I agree. When I was asked to join CoFoDoCo, the person "recruiting" me was very persistent. I was told that I didn't have to agree with their positions, I just had to believe in the Columbia "vision."

So I doubt that all those people agree with the CoFoDoCo assessment of the downtown plan. As a matter of fact, I can't even find their response to the current plan on their website.

I don't think the Council had a problem imagining that at all since CCD's goals, positions, and community-focused involvement have remained sincere, open, and consistent throughout this process.

Care to come back up to the high road for the rest of this process? There's plenty of room and plenty of company to be had.

"Care to come back up to the high road for the rest of this process? There's plenty of room and plenty of company to be had."

That's a very funny comment to make anonymously.

Well I was never even approached to join CoFoDoCo. I am disappointed. A little common sense goes a long way. Within a short time the name would have been HHPLGCTCS (Happy Hunting People Looking to Get the Columbia Town Center Started). Shucks that's no acronym. What about WELCOME (We Love Columbia More when Evolving) or SCOPE (Special
Columbia People Evolving) or ACORN(Active Columbia Residents for N...) or PERFECT (People Reflecting Forward...) or MOVE (Moving Onward...) or HOWARD (HH Willing to Argue Residential Development)or NCDRDCT (The New Columbia: Dreams Really Do Come True). Well forget about acronyms.
Wouldn't it be nice to see a New Columbia where our children and grandchildren have the chance to participate in dreams created by the New Columbia Town Center?

HH, spoken like a true snake oil salesman.

When moneyed people want grassroots support, they enlist push pollers. That has happened, and they still didn't get enough supporters.

Fact is, if the CCD people had $25k to do a scientific poll, it's much more likely that a vast majority would support their position.
