I‘ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have iPhone envy. This affliction has worsened since I got my LG Voyager back in February. I hate this phone. If the iPhone is the Trump Tower then my LG Voyager is skid row.
Its days as my portable communication device may finally be numbered.
According to this story by Rex Crum on Marketwatch.com, the iPhone may become available on the Verizon network as early as next year.
“Neither AT&T nor Apple have ever said how long their exclusive agreement for the iPhone is supposed to last. Marshall believes the deal will end in June 2010, and Apple isn't immune to having multiple carriers offer the iPhone, as it has reached multi-carrier deals in several countries.
Marshall says he believes "the chances are high" that Verizon will get the iPhone in the second half of next year, partly because adding Verizon as a carrier would help Apple extend its reach in the smartphone market.”
My long days in the app-less desert may soon be over.

I'm holding my breath that this 'dream' comes true. Too much bad history to go with AT&T, and Verizon overall has been good to me. My perfect pairing would be Apple + Verizon... After all, it's a Win-Win. Verizon and Apple will both gain share. Are you listening Mr. Jobs?
Droid claims it will outdo Iphone. Maybe you can get a free sample with your new commerical policy (smile)
At least take a look at the Droid when it comes out (I think Nov. 6th). It looks pretty cool.
Ooops, link here. Stupid HTML tags.
Fantastic news: Apple's updated their relationships. Way to go!
Verizon has just rolled out a major ad campaign for the Droid to go head to head with the iPhone. I don't think Verizon will be getting the iPhone. Ever. I would settle for a Palm Pre if they get it.
The good news is that the Droid looks pretty nice.
Being an engineer (read geek), and employing several other highly trained engineers (read lots of geeks), we've been intensively researching the Droid during the past couple of weeks, and we've actually been on top of Android since the G1 came out a year ago.
We've actually looked at the open source code and dissected some of the hardware.
Okay, we have too much time on our hands.
But it's fun.
Anyway, we've already formulated our strategy to ditch our iPhones and ATT and purchase Droids on Verizon in the next week or so.
Trust me, we're not going to camp out outside the Verizon store the night before the Droid goes one sale...but we have our ways.... We are Geeks.....
See my blog for updates. (How geeky is that?)
What, no comments on comments?
I think the Verizon iPhone bashing with their Droid ad push may signal a longer AT&T-iPhone relationship than wished for by many.
The early reviews on the Verizon Motorola Droid are pretty good, however it is touted as being for the younger crowd and focused on that segment, witnessed by the ads. It is also heavier and the early reviews show a phone platform with promise, but no iPhone killer just yet.
As far as AT&T and Verizon, I just recently switched to AT&T and find coverage, access and overall performance similar if not better. In my case, Verizon's pockets of no coverage like my house are solved and in the area I have more bars than even experienced with V. The maps showing the coverage nationwide do not bother me - I tend to stick around these parts.
Excellent comment on coverage, Verizon vs. ATT.
I was a Verizon customer for 4.5 years before I got my iPhone and ATT. I travel a lot, really too much, around the country, and I never ever found a spot where I did not have Verizon coverage.
I've travelled a lot less in the past year, since I got my iPhone, but I've been able to find three places where I did not have coverage. In Reston, VA, where, ironically, the host of the party I was at had Verizon but could not use his phone in his own house; in Radford, VA, on Claytor Lake in a Kayak; and on a golf course in northern Montgomery County, MD, even though I had visual contact with at least three cell phone towers.
Yep, I've looked at the map, too. Remember, the map is not the terrain.
Not a scientific sampling, I know, but I did have better coverage with Verizon than I have now with ATT.
Oh, and just a fine point: I tend to be an early adopter, so that's a big reason for me to go with the Droid. My advice is, stay young, use twitter.
