The seventeen military installations in Maryland employ over 118,000 people with an in-state payroll of $9 billion. They purchase over $7 billion in goods and services from Maryland companies.
In our backyard, Fort Meade/NSA accounts for "a total of $17.8 billion of economic activity in Maryland and creates or supports an estimated $9.2 billion in employee compensation."
That's billions with a capital "B".
These are some of the findings contained in a report entitled Mission Maryland: Measuring Economic Impact of Maryland's Military Installations. The report was compiled by the Jacob France Institute of the Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore.
If you like big numbers this report is chock full of them, breaking down the impact of each of the seventeen facilities.
