The Stanford Grill to Open in March

As originally reported here back in August, the former Lone Star restaurant on Stanford Boulevard in Columbia is undergoing a major renovation to transform the establishment from a family steakhouse to a business casual bar and restaurant similar to Houston’s. The Sanford Grill will be a “chef driven” restaurant meant to compete with Clyde’s and Victoria Gastro Pub.

The new restaurant is locally owned by a group of business people who also recently purchased the franchise rights to the Red Rock Canyon Grill. They are in the process of rebranding that chain to the Copper Canyon Grill. My sources tell me that the Columbia location will be a little more upscale than these restaurants.

The Stanford Grill is expected to open in mid March.

The location is still a problem. You could put a McDonalds back there and it would fail. It's tucked away and forgotten.

not exactly the best example. McDonalds is one of the most location dependent business there is.

Not sure if they will be open by the end of March. The outside renovations look like they are coming along really well and looks like some great outside dining or patio area will be available. I work next door and it looks like construction will last into April or May at least.

I work at the copper canyon in Gaithersburg and the Stanford grille will be doing a mock serving on the 18th, 19th and 20th of may. Everyone should come in for a complimentary evening and try it out! We plan on doing LOTS of advertising to make the location more known. Thanks for your support!

Had my first visit to Stanford Grill yesterday evening. Good marks for the food, service and atmosphere. Nice place and prices are reasonable. The shocker for me is such a smart restaurant company would select such a bad location. Other locations in Silver Spring, Orlando, etc are perfect. What were they thinking? Someone failed to do their research.

I will go back again but only with people who are familiar with the area. Others will never find it.

My family loved the restaurant, and found the location easily. We also enjoyed the patio area with the fireplace. Management just need to do some landscaping and get rid of the bugs!

Just found out about this place (referred as the old Lone Star) today from a friend and had to try it. Standford Grill had a great atmosphere with live jazz piano, fire pits, and awesome food. First impression was a mix of Grey Stone and the Iron Bridge Wine and Cheese. The Surf and Turf was excellent.
