Three Things about Food (Bastille Day Edition)

Today is Bastille Day, the French holiday celebrating the storming of the Bastille during the French Revolution. On this side of the pond, the holiday is generally observed by various food related activities like a waiters race. In Ellicott City, Tersiguels is offering a five course chef’s menu dinner for a hundred bucks a head with a quarter of that going to the Ulman Cancer Fund.

Though it has nothing to do with Bastille Day, the 27th annual Foodscape art exhibit at the Mount Royal Tavern in Baltimore has everything to do with food. Originally organized as a counter culture protest against the lack of loco art at Artscape, it has now become part of the Artscape tradition. Though it isn’t HoCo loco I mention it here because my sister, J. Kelly Lane, is one of the founding members. If you are attending Artscape this weekend and want to see some whimsical art about food, drop in to the Mount Royal Tavern.

I’ll be celebrating Bastille Day out in western HoCo by enjoying some barbeque in beautiful downtown Lisbon. HoCo Tourism has invited Paul Skalny and I to return for another video shoot promoting the  HoCo Farm-2 Table restaurant weeks (July 25th to August 8th). This afternoon we will be filming at the Lisbon Town Grill and next Tuesday we’ll visit Kelseys and Victoria Gastro Pub. Hopefully this time around we’ll get to actually enjoy the food!
