And The Mall Came Tumbling Down

From its inception, the Laurel Mall has been an also ran. Added as a monolith appendage in 1979 to a relatively successful strip center, it was both poorly conceived and executed. Over the years a progression of operators, including GGP,  has attempted to turn it around to no avail. Every attempt was akin to putting lipstick on a pig.

It will now be torn down by the same company that is developing the Turf Valley Town Square.

According to this story by Ben Giles in the Washington Examiner, “Greenberg Gibbons plans to demolish the mall entirely and rebuild it as a town center similar to the Annapolis Towne Centre and Hunt Valley Towne Centre -- retail and residential developments the company helped design.”

The deconstruction is expected to begin before the end of the year.
