Fowl Play

I’ve just learned that McDonald’s has submitted a Site Development Plan for a 3,886 square foot restaurant with a drive-thru on the site that is currently occupied by Boston Market at Snowden Square. The 1.15 acre property changed hands two years ago for $1,725,000.

Though it is still open, it appears that the Boston Markets days are numbered in Columbia, for awhile anyway.

The Boston Market in Riverhill is available too. (It's closed)

Is McD's trying to exceed Starbucks in ubiquity? Dobbin Rd, Owen Brown, restaurant park, Snowden@108, and soon Snowden@OM/Robert Fulton. What's that, a 5-mile radius? Good grief.

The nearby Chicken Out is better than Boston Market anyway. The sides are not smothered in sweetener, and the chicken is from Springer Mountain Farms — organic, humanely raised, not freakishly large, etc. They cost a bit more but I'm happy to pay it.
