Sun Lite

The “new” print edition Baltimore Sun premiered this past Sunday. It is sad to see how far the paper of H.L. Mencken has fallen. It actually makes USA Today look good.

I guess this is just the inevitable result of shrinking newsrooms and declining newspaper readership.

I, for one, am not losing any tears over the demise of The Baltimore Sun....

I'm so disappointed in the change to the Sun. They sacrificed actual news for "Ooooh, look; pretty colors!"

I didn't know that print editions of newspapers were still being published.

The main reason why the Sun and so many other "news"papers are seeing their readership in the tank is because they are more opinion (and biased opinion at that) than news.

It's the same reason why ABC, NBC, and CBS suck so badly, because their staffs are so entrenched in promoting their positions instead of reporting the facts and letting we the people decide how to judge the situation.

That, and the Sun's sports page was/is pathetic.

great analysis, pz!

I have a question, though. How does the rise of blatantly biased and opinionated media (blogs, fox news channel, etc) square with your notion that papers are dying because they are "more opinion...than news"?

Where I live, it's either the Sun or the Examiner. I've called several time to have them quit delivering the Examiner; I don't care if it's free...the writing is illiterate and the opinions are right out of BAUX news.

Come on guys. Give us a break. It's an imperfect world. So what if the Baltimore Sun was only correct with 50% of the hard news it published. It's opinions and editorials are not universally accepted either. Do you actually take at face value the news or opinions coming out of MSNBC, CBS, FOX or the radio talk shows? It's difficult but you've got to spend a lot time and effort standing in the stream when you're panning for gold. You can always find a nugget or two when you're looking in the right place.
