Burying The Hatchet

Larry Carson reports in the Sun today that Ken Ulman has nominated his former political rival, Chris Merdon to head up the “new revenue authority.” The first major undertaking for the authority will be the construction of a much needed parking facility to serve the historic district of Ellicott City.

This speaks well for both men. It is not that often that we see this type of post election collaboration after what can be conservatively described as a nasty campaign. Nicely done!

Just shows that at the county level there really is not that much difference between the parties. Also is a great example of "Howard County Civility".

I suspect that some of the more radical elements on both sides will find this a little uncomfortable.

Not so much uncomfortable as reaffirming some sentiments from the last election that little difference existed between the two campaigns' platforms.

The concept of a nebulous revenue authority, however, may really be the uncomforting thought for the day.

He's trying to neutralize Merdon before the next election - when the truth comes out about his faked resume and $4 million sweetheart lease to a political contributor. Anything to avoid the truth.

Anon 3:53,

Please. Give Chris Merdon more credit than that. And enough of the resume deal. Very few people really care about that story and so much fake resume mud has already been tossed by now it doesn't even resemble dirt. It didn't stick during the election and doesn't stick now. You really need to come up with something better if you want to paint him as somehow dishonest or corrupt.

And the Oakland Mills office lease deal doesn't cut it either. If you think that was done just because the developer made a political contribution (and are you certain that particular developer did?) you are sadly naive. Many developers with office space for lease contributed generously to Ulmans campaign as well as other business people and individuals. Many also contributed to Merdon. That is the reality of politics...it requires money.

Just curious, how much money did you give to Merdon's campaign?
