Bobo Bags Botanical Bucks

Delegate Liz Bobo’s initiative to secure a $250,000 state grant for the restoration and redevelopment of Symphony Woods in Columbia Town Center was successful. The bond request survived the bickering between the Maryland State Senate and the House of Delegates and was granted in full at the end of the session.

Bobo brought home the bacon.

While I do have a problem with this type of pork barrel spending, particularly when it goes to a private homeowners association, I’m glad that at least some of the money we send down to Annapolis is coming back to HoCo.

I suppose I should hand out a carrot to Mr. Ed for his efforts on this initiative too.

  1. Can I get something like this for my back garden? Who did I need to call?

  2. WB, it's so good to see that you're overwhelmed with gratitude for our county's legislative leaders. I guess Tales of TWO Cities is indicative of your attempt to have it both ways.

  3. I guess some folks will like this earmark that goes to a private HOA. I wonder if our CA taxes will go down?

  4. I was rooting against this earmark because the CA plan stinks, has no connection to the GGP proposal. In short way too little and way too late.

  5. anon 6:22,

keep in mind that this is money provided by the state. regardless if ca charges you or the state charges you, it still comes out of your pocket.

this way, we are getting hit twice for something no one uses.

  7. Spoken like true Tea Baggers who detest all earmarks until they are applied to a project they support.

  8. I can't stand people who call them tea "baggers." It is immature and does not add to the debate. In many cases, these are the same people that assume every Republican is a gun toting right-wing nut and every Democrat has a halo and is completely selfless and sacrosanct. Get real. The Tea Party members believe in less taxation and smarter government spending. They are not necessarily Libertarians, who would advocate almost zero government spending.

  9. Trevor, I'm a Republican and I detest the Tea Baggers who are attempting to hijack our party. Their rallies come off like a bunch of angry buffoons (the party of Hell NO). They damage the efforts of legitimate Republicans who are working to find solutions to the complex issues facing our state and country.

  10. Steve, those so called buffoons are saving the conservative ideal. The R party doesn't need hijacking since they're pushing people away with two hands!! It was GWBush who called for the AIG and Goldman bailouts. Independents won't vote for people who spend on TBTF businesses, watching as the gluttons who drove companies like GGP into bankruptcy walk away with millions in bonuses.

A republican incumbent is NO DIFFERENT than a democratic incumbent. They all gotta go.

  11. ** Giving Bobo a little too much credit here - she couldn't score that kind of money! Kasemeyer is responsible for $190k of it. **

  12. to the toss out the incumbents poster,

  13. Interesting you subscribe so much credit to Delegate Bobo for the Meriwether money. I think she knows that her time is limited and her constituency is vanishing...to Florida or how to say this sensitively afterlife or not? Her time is up in Annapolis and she knows it. The question is whether anyone will take the initiative and unseat her. She should be easy for any young, energetic, thinking, fiscally conservative, Howard Countian who wants the job. It's time for Ms Bobo to retire.

  15. WB - glad to see your proclivity for hypcorisy has not diminished!!!! What do you call the hidden perks that Ulman gave to GGP? Or, the overpayment agreement that Ulman ALMOST got away with for that developer over in VOM, where the County was ready to sign a contract to rent space from the developer (a friend, and surely a campaign contributor) at 3 TIMES THE MARKET RATE.

I guess by your tone, you're opposed to ALL grants of any kind then? If not, please clarify and explain how you can have two positions on the same issue!!!!
