Beer

After completing our Saturday yard work, Mama Wordbones and I decided to head on up to the Maryland State Fairgrounds for the Maryland Brewers Oktober Fest. This is not to be confused with the 1st Annual Baltimore Beer Festival that will be held next Sunday in Canton.

Sigh. So much beer, so little time.

I should note here that I am not a big beer drinker. My adult beverage of choice more often than not is a nice glass of red wine. On the other hand, I still enjoy an occasional beer and yesterday seemed like the perfect occasion for an occasional beer...or two.

It was also a great afternoon for Oktober Festing. With our souvenir tasting glasses in hand we proceeded to sample the offerings from the fifteen participating breweries. Once we had our first samples of Harvest 4 Grain from Johanson's Dining House in Westminster and Blueberry Dog from Pub Dog, I decided to keep notes. We liked the Harvest 4 Grain best out of those two.

From there it was on to Heavy Seas where I tried the Prosit while Mama Wordbones headed over to The Raven for their Pilsner. Out of those two, we liked the Prosit best.

On the drive up to Timonium I told Mama Wordbones that I looked forward to eating one of those giant soft pretzels while listening to an Oompah Band and drinking a beer in the warm afternoon sun. Alas, there was only one vendor selling soft pretzels and they looked like the same ones you can get at the Target snack bar. No thank you. The only Oompah music we heard was from the music played between sets of local rock and roll bands.

Still, the weather was warm and the beer was excellent.

Unfortunately for the blog reader, I soon became more interested in sampling than note taking. The only other notable brew that we both thought worthy of mention was the ESB from the Ruddy Duck in Solomon's Island.

All in all, it was a good time, and despite the report in the paper this morning, it was a well behaved multi generational crowd.

While we up in that part of the metro area we decided to check out the Wegmans in Hunt Valley.
