The Liz and Alan Show

Reliable sources have informed me that Liz Bobo has convinced Alan Klein to challenge Mary Kay Sigaty for her District 4 council seat in the 2010 Democratic primary elections. As previously reported here, Liz has abandoned her former ally over differences on Town Center redevelopment.

This really comes as no surprise to this old dog. Alan has been Liz Bobo’s hand puppet ever since he came on the local political scene as the “spokesperson” for CoFoCoDo a little over two years ago. As near as I can tell, this appears to be his only community service credential, an unelected mouthpiece.

Mary Kay on the other hand has a long history of community service including tenure on the Harpers Choice Village Board and the Board of Education.

Jeez Liz, is this the best you can do?

  1. YES! This is excellent news, thank you. Alan is a real public servant, not a mouthpiece for developers at the expense of taxpaying citizens.

Mary Kay was elected on one platform and did a 180 after a year in office. She is not in the best position for re-election.

    Go Alan!

You can attempt to ridicule successful state politicians to your heart's content, but Liz consistently gets 75% of the vote in her district. Must be doing something right, and those wordy charactures tend to backfire as readers imagine the writer in a similar vein.

  2. Interesting news. I figured Mary Kay was going to draw some sort of primary opponent and was curious if Ken Ulman was going to try and avenge the defeat of Josh Feldmark last time around by putting up a candidate of his own against Mary Kay....

  4. Funny/scary Alan Klein story. During one of the public zoning board meetings on ZRA 113, I witnessed him glued to his laptop, playing computer games the whole time.

He wasn't paying attention at all. Every once and a while he would scribble down a note or two, but for the most part, he was having fun playing his games.

I happened to be sitting at a table behind him, so it was impossible for me not to see what he was doing.

  5. And I saw Mary Kay watching porn during the same meeting. Seriously, is this the sort of nonsense that voters care about? I don't support Alan Klein at all because I think he has bad ideas, but an anecdotal story about him playing computer games is just lame.

  6. That's not fair - and I don't support Alan Klein. A number of people actually listen better while multitasking. Plus, those hearings are horribly repetitive.

  7. I'm sure Alan would make a good candidate, but I know that Mary Kay cares about her community as well. I'm frankly not sure why more people aren't ALARMED at home much Liz does behind the scenes to CONTROL local politics. I don't know what her ultimate goals is, but I am very alarmed that she seems to have a horse in EVERY race. That seems like power games, not working productively and collaboratively for our community!

  8. Liz Bobo is the rare honest politician who actually represents her constituency with extraordinary service-minded action. She's as active in her community as the next citizen and stays close to the concerns of all this way.

You might not be accustomed to seeing this, while most politicians are working for themselves.

  9. Liz Bobo is a politician that represents an ever-shrinking constituency within her district. What is extraordinary about her actions is that at one time she worked toward what was possible in this county and now she works toward limiting the possibilities of others. The problem with Liz and her robots is that they only listen to the echo of their own voice from thirty years ago.

  10. It looks like Liz Bobo already has someone gearing up to run against her in the next election from what the Howard County Times wrote today.

  11. The 800 lb gorilla discussion.
Wow! You'll never see this discussion in the Flier or Sun.

  12. Not much possibility for contender success, if you care about the truth. She wins 75% of her district, so obviously nothing about her support is shrinking.

  13. Anon 6:50 AM,

People once said the same thing about Chuck Ecker who denied her a second term as county executive.

  14. Well, as is often the case, both "reliable sources" and eye witness testimony are dead wrong.

    1. Liz has never asked me to run for any office. Others have, but not Liz. At this point, I have said yes to no one on this issue.

    2. As to me not paying attention at Planning Board sessions on ZRA 113, as I told someone during one of those sessions, my mother used to knit during town meetings where we grew up in Massachusetts. I play computer word games. We both paid attention, as my extensive notes on all those sessions will attest.
