This is a 30-year plan, and that shovel won't hit the ground until at least 2013. I have certain issues that are more important to me than others. I am a dentist and a small business owner. I have followed the health-care debate very closely both nationally and locally. This is the issue that is important to me. There has been a push from bee-keepers to change the laws in regards to bee keeping. Mary Kay has been in support of changing these laws. Most people don't care the slightest bit about that law, but I can imagine someone with a bee-sting allergy would care very deeply. We all have our important issues, and we have a civic responsibility to tell our elected officials via direct communication, with our pocketbooks and with our votes how we feel about these issues.Trevornoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35921470.post-38964256829892422162010-05-21T09:22:58.868-04:002010-05-21T09:22:58.868-04:00It's official. This was without question her biggest accomplishment and perhaps the biggest accomplishment of the county council over the last four years. Mary Kay more than anyone made this happen.

Yet, you're willing to throw your support to a guy who clearly doesn't get it because you're upset that Mary Kay has a typically liberal position on health care and supports Ulman's pet project? It's a done deal. It's such a done deal that I want to be the community enforcer to make sure that the developer's actually stick to what they signed up to do! I come from a part of the district/county that has seen the developer's plan unfold repeatedly: propose a plan of high density, fight with the community, come to some middle ground, and then as soon as the equipment starts to move earth the developer puts up those familar orange signs announcing a change in plans! Well, I won't stand for it as your Councilman. In fact, I will push for completion of the plan as fast as possible. We don't need this dragging out for decades!

As for Healthy Howard, health care is no more a right than someone having a right to brand new sports car. No one goes without health care that needs it. By law, HC General has to treat anyone that walks into the emergency room. Yes, this, in part, increases our premiums that we pay for health care, but in Howard County I also have to pay a tax so that Healthy Howard can exist.

Tom D`Asto
Candidate for Howard County Council
District 4
councilman@tomdasto.orgTomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13032044934682756151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35921470.post-83675112302021404482010-05-20T21:22:55.742-04:002010-05-20T21:22:55.742-04:00I just love it when two people come together on my...I just love it when two people come together on my blog.

-wbwordboneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00250201271555676642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35921470.post-406616727703302802010-05-20T15:17:05.151-04:002010-05-20T15:17:05.151-04:00I carry the Anonymi with me in my heart wherever I...I carry the Anonymi with me in my heart wherever I go.Tom Coale (HCR)https://www.blogger.com/profile/03637571896291463784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35921470.post-86026545471263542822010-05-20T14:41:30.058-04:002010-05-20T14:41:30.058-04:00HCR,

Before I "put my money where my mouth is" and donate to one campaign, I would like to know the other candidates' stances on these two issues. As a younger Columbian, I am in favor of development of downtown Columbia so that my family can have an area to call our "own" as we age.

Additionally, as a member of the River Hill Village Board, I know Sigaty has been great about meeting with our community and our Board and helping us deal with a variety of issues including crime prevention and master-plans.

But unfortunately, I saw some comments Mary Kay Sigaty made in the Baltimore Sun in regards to the Healthy Howard plan. As a health-care practitioner, small business owner, and tax payer, I am adamantly against any government run and organized health-care program. Here is the quote: "Mary Kay Sigaty, a west Columbia Democrat, said she believed 'health care is a right, not a choice.'"

I do not know where in the Constitution or Bill of Rights it says health care is a "right."

I would like to know the Republican opponents stance on development and Healthy Howard. If he is in support of development, and in support of ending the Healthy Howard program, then he has my vote and my money. On the other hand, Sigaty is certainly a better choice than Klein. So, if the Republican challenger doesn't speak up soon and show me he is organized, I guess I'll throw my support to the lesser of two evils, and support Sigaty.Trevor Greenenoreply@blogger.com
